At the start, LGP was a local drama group set up to occupy and entertain the village community. However, there was always an open and welcoming approach, so a few decades on, though LGP still has strong local support, a lots of its membership and audience now come from further afield.
The group has always given its profits to charity and good causes and although this aspect is very important to the membership, the prime objective of the group is to put on good plays and entertainments. We aim to be innovative and flexible and to offer a varied programme which will develop the skills of the membership and keep the audiences coming.
Plays and venues vary widely. Our annual dinner theatre in Lacey Green village hall serves 100 people per performance. Our "Theatre at Home" productions perform to an audience of 25-30 in a large sitting room. Audience and players are really close to each other and some of our most thought provoking plays are performed this way. Our Murder Mysteries travel from venue to venue, some large and some tiny. Our "Themed Evenings" are planned and carefully rehearsed improvisations. Extravaganzas which owe most to Theatre of the Absurd!
For positive reasons we rarely plan a programme of plays a year or so in advance. Rather than going out to look for actors to fill gaps in a long-planned production, we prefer to find plays to interest and engage the membership as it is "now". So if you're interested in joining us, contact us, come along and when the plays are chosen you will be part of the mix. Plays are chosen through play readings and discussion.
LGP welcomes all comers, from experienced actors to absolute beginners; the technically minded (lights and sound); Back Stage and Front of House crew. Families are welcome with children and teenagers. There are no membership fees.
